Privacy-friendly analytics

We use Umami, an open-source analytics tool that we host ourselves on our own server at alwaysdata in France (European Union). It collects anonymous usage statistics: page views, referrers, browser type, device type and country (derived from your IP address, which is not stored). Umami does not use cookies and does not track you across sites. No analytics data is shared with Umami Software or any other third party.

We also count clicks on external links (such as affiliate links) and tool interactions (for example which compass square was tapped) to learn which features are useful. These events contain no personal data.

Data stored on your device

To make the tools pleasant to use, a few things are saved in your browser's local storage: your theme choice, your last recipe (dose, ratio, yield, selected brew method), the coffee details you entered and your recent shot times. This data never leaves your device and is not sent to us. You can remove it at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser.

If you install the app or visit regularly, a service worker stores the site's files on your device so the tools work offline. It caches only public website files.

Legal basis for processing

• Legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) for anonymous analytics that help us improve the service without identifying individuals.
• Technical necessity for the server logs our hosting provider keeps to deliver and secure the website.

Hosting

This website is hosted by alwaysdata in France (European Union). Like every web server, it records standard technical information when you visit: IP address, browser and operating system, date and time, and the page requested. These logs are used for security and performance only. See alwaysdata's privacy policy.

International data transfers

None. The website, its server logs and our analytics all run at alwaysdata in France, so your data stays in the European Union.

Data retention

• Analytics: aggregated, anonymous statistics may be kept indefinitely.
• Server logs: kept according to our hosting provider's retention policy.
• On your device: until you clear the site data.

Your rights (GDPR)

If you are in the EU or EEA you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, port and object to the processing of your personal data. Because we do not collect personal data ourselves, these rights mainly apply to any direct correspondence you have with us.

Some pages link to external websites such as World Coffee Research or Amazon. Some links are affiliate links: if you buy something through them we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. Once you leave this site, the other website's privacy policy applies.
